PM2.5 Exposure

Compare population-weighted mean annual exposure to ambient PM2.5 air pollution.

Methodology

Values are World Bank World Development Indicators EN.ATM.PM25.MC.M3: population-weighted mean annual exposure to ambient PM2.5 (micrograms per cubic meter), from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023 (GBD 2023) via World Bank. Annual mean PM2.5 concentrations are modelled by combining satellite aerosol optical depth, chemical transport models, and ground monitors, then weighted by urban and rural population. Values are modelled exposure estimates for comparative risk assessment, not regulatory compliance monitoring, and are not an air-quality index (AQI). OurBlueDot does not interpolate, fill missing years, replace missing values with zero, or combine other PM indicators. Country rows are joined by ISO 3166-1 alpha-3; regional and income aggregates are excluded. Map ranks are comparable-sample competition ranks among currently loaded countries (rank 1 is the highest exposure). Missing countries remain without a value.
