What the atlas measures

OurBlueDot is an interactive world atlas of public data. Themes below are doorways into maps and country answers — not composite scores, ESG ratings, or a climate-only dashboard.
Population and health
Longevity, fertility, child and maternal survival, adult obesity, and alcohol consumption. These series describe how populations live and die. The atlas does not currently publish a headline population-count layer; demographic structure is read through these health indicators instead.
Economy
GDP per capita, employment, and female labour-force participation. Each is a public series with its own unit and year. They are not blended into a competitiveness score.
Education
Estimated adult literacy is the current education indicator, with reported survey values labelled separately from estimates. Further education layers will be added only when the source, license, and method are ready.
Environment
Territorial CO₂ emissions per person, forest area, water stress, PM2.5 exposure, temperature change, and fertilizer use. Grey countries are missing source values, not implied zeros.
Energy
Household electricity access, clean cooking access, and electricity generation mix. Access and mix answer different questions and are kept on separate maps.
Mobility
Cars, electric-vehicle sales, public chargers, air and rail travel, and road traffic deaths. Uptake, intensity, and harm are published as distinct measures.
Quality of life
Life-evaluation scores, internet use, literacy, and coffee consumption. Quality of life is treated as adjacent public series, not as a single index.
