Alcohol Consumption
Compare modelled litres of pure alcohol consumed per adult across countries.
Methodology
Values are World Bank World Development Indicators SH.ALC.PCAP.LI: total alcohol consumption per capita, litres of pure alcohol per adult aged 15+ per year. The figure is a modelled WHO Global Information System on Alcohol and Health (GISAH) estimate republished by WDI from the Global Health Observatory for SDG 3.5.2. It sums recorded alcohol consumption with an estimate of unrecorded consumption and adjusts for tourist consumption. It is not observed retail sales, a drinking-prevalence survey, a binge-drinking rate, or a 2021-2030 WHO recovery or ARIMA forecast. WDI labels the series as projected estimates; that WHO language refers to the modelled total (recorded plus unrecorded), not later forecast years. WDI 2019 is omitted because it is a complete copy of 2018 for overlapping countries, not an independent observation. WDI currently returns country series through 2020 for this indicator, so 2020 is the newest trustworthy period. 2021 and later years are omitted, including WHO GHO 2024 values that equal 2023 and 2021-2030 projections. OurBlueDot does not interpolate, fill missing years, replace missing values with zero, mix WDI and GHO vintages, or add projections. True published zeros are kept and ranked. Country rows are joined by ISO 3166-1 alpha-3; regional and income aggregates are excluded. Map ranks are comparable-sample competition ranks among currently loaded countries (rank 1 is the highest consumption). Lower values are more favorable. Missing countries remain without a value.
